Y SUKKOT
IN THE HILLS 5765 Y
To Members of Saguaro Juniper, Cascabel
Hermitage, and Tucson Friends
YOU ARE WARMLY INVITED TO JOIN IN A SUKKOT
CELEBRATION AT THE SUKKAH, CASCABEL, ARIZONA
WHERE: At the Sukkah, above Sukkah Wash
..
We are returning to our tradition of
celebrating the many meanings of Sukkot (Feast of Booths) with country and city
friends gathering in a pristine and beautiful site. A sukkah is a simple temporary dwelling open to the sky such as those constructed by the Jews in the desert during the exodus
from Egypt.
The road to
“Sukkah Wash” and to the Sukkah itself is passable this year, so we will once
again convene there. A gentle and
joyous service including prayers, songs and readings prepared by Carol Kestler,
and others, will be available for us, and people often add to the service once
we gather.
Folks from Tucson
can travel to Benson, then north from the Pomerene Rd. exit. Pomerene Rd. leads into Cascabel Road. After
several miles distance, that road becomes washboard. Parking is suggested at a location about 30 miles up the road we
will identify that is just left off Cascabel Road (the knoll). We’ll then
consolidate vehicles, to get to the Sukkot celebration site. (A map will be
sent to those attending)
WHAT TO BRING:
long pants, light long sleeved shirt to protect from critters, a camp chair or
something comfortable to sit on, any study or prayer materials or meditations
you’d like to share. Bring a vegetarian platter with holiday foods to share.
Eating is an important part of our ritual! Hanging decorations welcomed for the
ramada. but must be natural and
organic, ready to go back to the earth.
We will supply a lulav and etrog some refreshments and fresh water.
We will need to
add fresh “schach” (palm and willow) branches over the open roof
and simple wall coverings and will do
so the day before ; early birds welcome to join and help!
