"Our Lands & Creatures" -- New website materials 09-2004 to 02-2005
Geology: this array of pages has been much improved by inserting numerous geological mini-maps to illustrate points of discussion, and by adding more images to improve illustrations of formations, etc.
Weather, etc.: the main new material here (setting aside the regular additions to Harold Elliott's Weatherstation) is on the main page, where there is a new heading: (5) "Seasonal Changes". This page gives a month-by-month "almanac" of typical climate, flowerings, ripenings, and faunal activities. We invite people to contribute info on particular events they have witnessed for given months, so we can gradually build this into a more substantial almanac.
The San Pedro River Drainage: setting aside the development of "Ecoregion" discussions etc, which have already been reported, the main additions here are insertion of a page called "The Hot Springs Canyon Landscape" (which merely links to that page in the "Landscape" series), and a link to "Geological history" (which links into that array of pages). This simply directs further access for those whose main interest in the website is in the San Pedro pages.
Flora: considerable new material has been added to "Algae", "Mosses", "Ferns", "Cacti", Agaves etc, and a "Mistletoe" page has been added to "Trees & Shrubs". "Invasive species" has an update on the spread of Lehmann's Lovegrass.
Lichens: quite a few new images. This is a most active season for the mosses, ferns, and lichens (provided there is some winter rain, when north-facing slopes are entirely out of the sun, and gives water needed for reproduction)..
Fauna: a few new spider images; a number of new bird & mammal images. The page on packrats is particularly improved.
